For 2022 Pride, I was approached by BCEFA to create a dance piece for Playbill’s Big Broadway Disco Afterparty at Sony Hall on Saturday, June 25th. Broadway Cares wanted to promote Broadway Bares: XXX occurring on Sunday, June 26th. I pitched a couple concepts and settled on repurposing the Pointer Sisters’ disco hit ‘I’m So Excited’ into a montage celebration of the Bares’ community and the process of making a production number. It began with a choreographer trying out ideas, then she brings on friends for pre-pro. It transitions into rehearsals with dancers learning the movement and finally the number explodes with the addition of costumes (designed by dear collaborator DW Withrow) and formations as the number takes shape and approaches full performance-mode. “Tonight’s the Night” was a blast celebrating BCEFA and publicizing the upcoming Bares 30th anniversary, and it was a total pleasure working with Playbill and Sony Hall to bring this concept to life in an immersive staging.
